The Sacred Heart Youth Crusade is a joyful global movement that expects young people to grow in virtue.
There is a level of flexibility inside of this larger mission that makes it exciting, allowing for a fellowship of young people around the world.
Since many adults have different roles in the lives of young people, we provide them with different ways to form units.
Firstly, those who are part of the Sacred Heart Mission Crusade and the main Sacred Heart Crusade act as the usual leaders for units.
Parents and guardians can also form a unit in their own home, with two or more youth members. The adults will be the unit leaders. In the case of one child who is interested, they can still join an existing unit in their local area or a parent or guardian can propose the formation of a new unit, in which other nearby children can join. If a single child member doesn’t want to join a unit, they can still participate in the Youth Crusade.
Educators, ministry leaders, librarians, pastors, and all others who are in contact with young people can begin a unit for young people in their local area. All who are interested in starting an official unit must reach out to the regional chapter of the Sacred Heart Crusade in their area. Leaders must practice the Christian faith.
Unit leaders can perform the Initiation Ceremony to officially make participating youth Junior Knights and Junior Ladies of the Youth Crusade and share their registration with the movement.
Units will be provided with a newsletter that will keep them up to date on the global Youth Crusade, including activities, contests, and other joyful things for their members.
A unit can host edifying activities, spiritual formation, and guided fellowship. Possibilities for this include, but aren’t limited to, creative contests, skill workshops, leadership development, bible study, and regionally specific activities, like sports or utilizing the outdoors.” All of a unit's official activities should be focused on bringing children closer to Christ.
Each unit can choose its own name after a Christian term or other appropriate name. The unit will be called (Name) Youth Unit #(the unit’s number in the order of creation: a number given by regional leadership after the unit is named). Unit names must be approved by regional leadership to be official.
Units can also establish their own themes, colors, banner decoration. Independent social media pages are also optional and it is advised that these represent the movement well.
Units are excellent things to form at schools or churches, among homeschooling groups, or at a public place like a library. Sometimes libraries allow one to reserve a room at no cost.
In a world of cold hearts, these units allow young people to grow in faith and share that faith with a world that needs it.
