All members of the Sacred Heart Crusade have the ability to start a unit.
This unit can be open to the public, or specifically for their family or friends, for a parish, and other similar audiences.
The goal of a unit is to build a fellowship that strives together for holiness. They can pray, undertake spiritual reading, and other edifying activities. As a unit can partake in the spiritual fruit of a member’s prayer and sacrifices, it should be encouraged for members to seek out opportunities to do these things for the sake of the unit. In fact, all units of the entire movement are linked spiritually in this sense, in that the prayers of all benefit the prayers of all.
Units can meet in-person, from parish centers, libraries, outdoors, and more, or online.
If desired, each unit can host activities, workshops, contests, and service opportunities for both unit members and non-members, which includes the general public. Units can choose to be exclusive to males or females or an age group.
Each unit can choose its own name after a Christian term or other appropriate name. The unit will be called (Name) Sacred Heart Unit #(the unit’s number in the order of creation: a number given by regional leadership after the unit is named). Unit names must be approved by regional leadership to be official.
They can also freely use the design assets of the Sacred Heart Crusade, including the Sacred Heart logo, also being able to decorate a banner for regional events.
A unit can start a social media account for itself. The Regional Commander must be informed whenever a new account is created. All Sacred Heart Crusade units, while supported by the larger Crusade, are given a level of independence that is the responsibility of its leadership to use for good. Ultimately, all units are under the authority of the regional leadership of which that unit is a part of, but the unit leader will be responsible for proper management.
If your unit is open to the public, regional leadership will sometimes direct new members of the Crusade to join your unit. It will also be a task of unit leaders to invite people into the unit.
Lastly, unit leaders for the Sacred Heart Crusade should be Christian if the unit is a public one. For private units, such as in the case of a family specific unit, the unit leader can be non-Christian, as an aspect of the Crusade is to allow for people to develop in the Christian life, especially if they haven’t been formed in faith yet.
Unit leaders will be provided with more information upon starting a unit. They will also be informed of the larger activities of the Sacred Heart Crusade, such as regional and global conferences. They will also be provided with media materials, such as a newsletter that they can distribute to their members.
