The Inspiration for Our Revival of an Old Movement
Jesus Christ is the ultimate inspiration for the Sacred Heart Crusade, a movement with a goal to glorify Him. Secondly, the task is the salvation of souls.
In my own life, I found a prayer card in my grandfather’s missal.
This card was tucked away safely on the page for June 29th, the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul. This was the day I decided to become Catholic, starting a journey of spiritual growth and struggle that lasts to this day.
I take great inspiration from St. Paul, who desired new methods of evangelization. In this modern world, with no doubt, there are many new ways to share the love of Jesus Christ.
This has been a central calling of my life, in both my avoidance and acceptance of it. I remember being a young boy of about eleven years of age. I made a sinner’s prayer and took up a dedication to Christ my Savior. Upon returning to my mother’s car, I remember being overwhelmed by tears because of what I was told I would have to do now that I became a Christian: Share the love of Jesus Christ with others.
A missionary movement that did this wonderful act so well was the Catholic Students’ Mission Crusade (1918-1970). Founded amidst the destruction of the First World War, it led generations of young people into deeper awareness of the task of a Christian: Sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the world. Remember that prayer card I found that belonged to my grandfather? It was his membership card for this movement. Indeed, large parts of the structure of this Crusade are a revitalization of this movement.
After my baptism, I have ventured into the frontlines of digital evangelization, I learned of the contemplative life while working with monks, I experienced the ministry of teaching in a grade school, I have explored the world of business, and I have organized local groups.
My own life experience, though not clear in the moment what it was leading to, will now sprout into this Sacred Heart Crusade.
I envision forming units around the world, in homes, at churches, and in communities. These will share the burning love of Jesus’ Sacred Heart with Christians who need comfort and hope, and will welcome non-Christians into fellowship.
The Mission Crusade part will bring together units for artists, teachers, and servant leaders. This unique cross-pollination will allow for new and stronger bonds to be formed between them. It will also provide formation and unity for evangelists in our time.
Lastly, these units will sponsor and support the Youth Crusade. It will assist young people in their calling to become a saint. In closing, some of the most joyful moments of my life have come from witnessing the faith that young people can have during our days.
These are dark days. These are days of coldness. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus rekindle our faith, lighten the way, and set ablaze the souls of men.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus for the World! The World for the Sacred Heart!
